But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies.” Following our incredible time in Bequia, we prepared the Life Jacket for a short sail south to the majestic private island of Mustique. Home to the world’s rich and famous; the island contains just 40 luxurious vacation homes, mansions, and boutique hotels, including the residence of celebrities Bryan Adams and Tommy Hilfiger. Offering crystal indigo and turquoise waters, stunning white sand beaches, and a lush jungle landscape, Mustique is truly THE favorite of all who step foot on her shores. Making our way into the bay, we snagged a mooring ball and quickly dove straight into the pristine waters. Though private, Mustique permits sailboats and catamarans to remain in the bay for three nights at a time, as well as provides “mule” (golf cart) rentals to explore the beaches and hills. With the mules rented and coolers packed, we made our way to the other side of the island for an afternoon of body-surfing and picnicking at Macaroni beach. After a quick trip to the mini-Mustique airport to gather the rest of the crew, we showered and dressed up to head for sunset and cocktails at the charming and award winning boutique hotel, The Firefly. Providing its patrons and guests with old world luxury and attention to detail the gracious owners of the Firefly, Stan and Liz, have handcrafted a fairytale destination. The spectacular views, hand carved wood piano bar, perfectly crafted Martinis, five luxurious suits, and fresh water infinity pool overlooking the sea, are truly an experience not to be missed. Our cocktails in hand, we relaxed in the lovely garden area, calmed by the sound of waterfalls, and mesmerized by the brilliant fire of the Caribbean sunset. We spent the following day exploring the island, swimming, enjoying the local bakery and shopping in the boutiques. The stores offer beautiful beachwear and swimsuits that are a great place to pick up an extra outfit if you are willing to splurge a bit. In the evening, we headed to the Life Jacket to enjoy a delicious home cooked meal before heading back out to go dancing with some local friends. Our final morning in Mustique, we made our way to the Firefly for a gourmet brunch and to say our goodbyes. Caffeinated and ready to explore, we prepared the ship, unhooked the mooring ball, and set off for our next adventure… - Words By: Alexandria Prain
