She loved it especially when the waves were high and the ship rose and fell, or when it was snowing and the flakes stung her face.” Happily settled into island time and the sailing life, our crew woke up with the vibrant sun kissing our faces. With coffee percolating, fresh fruit from the market cut, and fresh eggs prepared, we spent the morning relaxing and enjoying the last moments in Canouan. After, we swabbed the deck and tidied ship, we headed south for a quick sail to Mayreau. The small crescent moon shaped island is a favorite of the Icelantic crew. The anchor zone offers sailors a stunning tranquil bay with soft white sand beaches. There are also a few beach vendors with local art and sarongs, as well as two local restaurants that prepare travelers delicious Caribbean style BBQ. We spent the day exploring the island, hunting coconuts, and swimming. That evening we hired a local friend of Black Boy’s (an infamous local on the island) to prepare some authentic flavors for dinner. After a great meal, we ending the evening with some dancing and playing music on the beach. The following morning we set sail early to find a prime mooring ball in the famed archipelago and marine park of Tobago Cays. The marine reserve, comprised of five small uninhabited islands, is home to a sea turtle sanctuary and some of the world’s most premier snorkeling and diving. Truly paradise on earth, the protected bay offers visitors a pantone of stunning blues and turquoises lagoons, the opportunity to swim in the protected turtle sanctuary, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore an expansive and intricate coral reefs and drop off into the open sea. - Words By: Alexandria Prain
